Frequently Asked Questions

What, exactly, does Zeitguide mean?
Zeitgeist is a German word that—like angst and schadenfreude (pleasure in other people’s misery)—has entered into the English language. In a nutshell, it means “the spirit of the times”. Since this guidebook is constantly updated and includes lots of information about current affairs and what is going on now (not months or years ago, when most hard copy guide books were written), we thought that using a play on the word zeitgeist is just about perfect.

By the way, did you know that Fahrvergnügen isn’t a real word? The German car manufacturer VW made it up for its U.S. ad campaign.

Why only one chapter at a time? Why not sell the whole book?
Purchasing one chapter at a time enables you to lessen your pre-destination bills and lighten your on-the-road load. First of all, we think that it’s major drag to buy a massive (and expensive) guidebook if you plan on visiting one region or city at a time. Even backpackers with all the time in the world on their hands don’t “do” entire countries. Secondly, gazillion-page guide books are heavy! When you’re traveling around a city, the last thing you need is to lug useless paper around.

When do you update your chapters?
We constantly monitor the press and talk to our travel experts about the newest attractions, accommodations and eateries, as well as the latest renovations. If something is major, we immediately update the chapter.

How do I download the chapters?
You can download chapters using the download link located at the top right corner of the page. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to do so. Once logged in, you will see a page containing links for downloading each chapter that you have purchased.

Hello?! Where is your smart phone version?!

How do I tell you about a correction or make a suggestion?
We wish we were perfect. But mistakes are made, restaurants are closed, sights are overlooked and opening hours change. Berlin is especially hard to keep up to date; we swear that the city changes by the minute. Please use the contact form if you see the need for a correction, or have suggestion or tip! We welcome comments about typos, too. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Do you include listings in exchange for payment?
In a word – no. We pride ourselves on our editorial integrity and do not accept payment in exchange for coverage. In some cases, we have been treated to overnight stays by hotels or meals by restaurants, but we only recommend worthy establishments.

I would like to use your content on my Web site. Can I have your permission to do so?
Please use the contact form to make a request and we’ll see if we can make it happen.

Can I put a link to ZeitguideGermany on my web site?
